Punjab
Pine ridges and cool air, a long weekend from Lahore
Murree and the Galiyat run along a ridge of pine forest an hour above Islamabad, in the foothills of the Himalaya. For families in Lahore, it is the closest escape from the summer heat.
Most visitors stay on Mall Road. We stay further along the ridge at Nathia Gali, where the walks are quieter: the Pipeline Track to Ayubia, and the climb to Mushkpuri Top for views across to the Kashmir peaks.
Mar – May
Fresh green ridges, 15–22°C. Quieter on weekdays.
Jun – Aug
An escape from the plains heat, 20–28°C. Monsoon rain in July and August.
Sep – Nov
Clear views to the hills, 12–22°C.
Dec – Feb
Snow from December to February. Roads can close and traffic is heavy; nights below 0°C.

“An easy long weekend with the kids. The hotel was a little dated, but the walks along the ridge were exactly what we needed.”
